We are pleased to welcome Mr. Steven Cook to Townsend K-12 Schools!Mr. Steven Cook - Townsend Elementary School Principal

Mr. Cook is actually a Townsend native. Born in Helena, he was raised in Townsend and spent his entire school career in Townsend schools.

Mr. Cook graduated from Broadwater High School in 1977 and attended Western Montana College (now called University of Montana Western) in Dillon, Montana. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western.


Mr. Cook taught for four years in Montana before joining the Navy. A veteran of Operation Desert Storm (the first Persian Gulf War), Mr. Cook began teaching high school science in the Mineral County School District in Hawthorne, Nevada, after separating from the service.

During these early years, Mr. Cook obtained his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Nevada Reno. He transitioned into administration upon graduation in 2000, becoming the educational leader of Hawthorne Middle School. In 2007, he left the Mineral County School District for the Elko County School District in Elko, Nevada. Currently, Mr. Cook is finishing his work at Wendover Elementary School, part of the Elko County School District.

Mr. Cook is a highly experienced school administrator bringing a wealth of professional skill and knowledge to his new role as Townsend Elementary Principal. He specializes in implementing systems that ensure students receive the best possible academic education. A part-time resident of Townsend since 2015, Mr. Cook is now welcomed full-time as he takes on the leadership of Townsend Elementary.
